Vatican City

We visited the Vatican City officially Vatican City State and the museums were amazing.

This is an independent country nestled in the heart of Rome. It became independent from Italy in 1929 with the Lateran Treaty, and it is a distinct territory under “full ownership, exclusive dominion, and sovereign authority and jurisdiction” of the Holy See.

While it might be tiny by country standards, it still made my feet ache like all hell walking around it.

Vatican City contains religious and cultural sites such as St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel (no pictures alas, they were not allowed), and the Vatican Museums.

They feature some of the world’s most famous paintings and sculptures.
