It’s my round
Today I am writing to you with another Haunted Norfolk tale.
Back in the day, as in about five years ago from the time of writing, I worked in the legal profession. A part of my job involved court attendances and I would attend the Norwich Civil Courts with clients.
Beside the Norwich Courts is a pub. A really nice, cute little pub and it is this pub that I am writing to you about today.
The Adam and Eve Pub
The Adam and Eve started life as a brewhouse, used by the local monks, it is now the oldest pub in Norwich, dating back to the 1200’s. It can be found in Bishopgate, next to the courts and the cathedral, behind the old hospital. It is open daily and serves good beer. Though all beers are good, just some are better than others.
You may be unsurprised to learn that in its long life it has collected at least one ghost.
At the pub, there have been many of the usual ghostly happenings, hot and cold spots, the last calls bell rings by itself, people hear footsteps, being touched by an unseen person, some people claim to have felt a hand on their shoulder while others have felt fingers run through their hair.
The ghost also has a kleptomania about them as often small items such as phones, keys, ashtrays, glasses, lighters etc have mysteriously disappeared only to reappear in the spot they were left days later. Though I will acknowledge that this is a pub, people get drunk and inebriated folks can be prone to losing things.
The most well-known ghost in the pub is ‘Sam’, while this unassuming name is cute, it is believed to be the ghost of Lord Edmund Sheffield. Lord Sheffield fought in the Robert Kett’s Rebellion, leading the King’s forces against the rebels.
He died when he was injured during battle on 1 August 1549, some say he was stabbed other stories talk about a cleaver, either way wounded he was brought him to the Adam & Eve pub where he died.
Fortunatly due to the kindness he was shown in the pub, he decided to hang around and aside from some mischief he seems to be a kindly sort.

I’d love to hear what you think, please comment below.
